Another great VW LT, and it’s for sale!

Seeing that great LT campervan a few days ago forced me to Google around for others, and I found this great 1988 Syncro camper for sale in the UK on the Campervan Culture website.

It’s had a complete body rebuild including new paint from professional painters, which sometimes have health issues because of the hard work, although they can solve this thanks to the use of chiropractic for painters which really help painters improve their health. The driveline includes a brand new 2.4 liter intercooled turbodiesel (only 3400 km on the engine as it sits), the uprated NP242 transfer case has been installed, with difflocks in the front, rear and middle. The 255/100-16 Michelins are almost new, and sit on stock LT 4×4 rims. The van also includes a 100 liter auxiliary fuel tank.

The new, custom interior features belts for 6 (although 2 are lap-only) and beds for 4. All of the windows are double-glazed and the rest of the van is insulated as well. Hot and cold running water is available from the tap as well as two showers, inside and out. There’s external access for the cassette toilet to make changing it easy as well.

Click through for more photos and a complete video tour of the van compliments of Campervan Culture. The video features some great footage of the van touring around the European countryside and even fording some streams! Check out the ‘Syncros For Sale’ page on the Campervan Culture website for more about this and other great off road VWs for sale.

Was Revcon’s Trailblazer the first true American off-road motorhome?

Revcon as a company is known for a line of wonderful, front-wheel drive aluminum coaches. At the time they were in production, these were the class of the industry, and even now they command high resale values in comparison to motorhomes of the same age. In the mid 1990’s though, Revcon produced a number of Class B motorhome based on a stretched 4×4 Ford F350 crew cab chassis. The Trailblazer ran Powerstroke diesels and added a second tag axle in the rear, resulting in a gorgeous beast of a machine that looked like it could go anywhere in comfort, as long as it could fit between the trees.

This particular 1995 Revcon Trailblazer was listed on eBay in early 2010. If you search around you can occasionally find one popping up for sale on various forums. I don’t have any firsthand experience, but they certainly look to be competent, if a little wide and a little long for any serious off roading. Interestingly, the vehicle is officially named the Trailblazer 4×4, although it has 6 wheels! I don’t want to claim this as cannon, but surfing around online I’m taken to believe that the rearmost wheels are actually attached to an un-driven tag axle. Nevertheless, I’d assume a moniker of 6×4 would be more appropriate than 4×4.

I find it interesting to compare the American style of cab-behind-engine off-road motorhome to the European cab-over-engine style. Personally I find the latter far more appealing. The ubiquity of the pickup truck here in the States definitely makes it easier to own the American style motorhomes though. As I continue to post to the blog, this will probably be a recurring theme, as I continue to look at these differences and find out if they’re based simply on the availability of chassis vehicles, or if the differences are based more on the preferences of the buying public.

Click through for lots more photos of this Revcon Trailblazer 4×4, including shots of the the interior.

Badass VW LT40 Syncro snapped in Lima, Peru

The folks at LostWordExpedition.com snapped a shot of this cool LT40 in Lima yesterday. No backstory or information, just enjoyed the photo of this great machine doing what it does best (well, maybe it’s more accurate to say that it’s resting between bouts of doing what it does best). Suffice to say that this LT looks simply badass, and I’d love to see more photos of it.

I truly wish the LT was sold in the States. While the Sprinter is a modern rendition of the LT, I have yet to be really impressed by the all-road prowess of any of the Sprinters I’ve seen. Of course, I’m open to having my horizons expanded in that regard.

Posted on twitter by Lost Word Expeditions, and found via Joel Johnson’s feed. Check out the Lost World Expeditions website to read about their journey around the Americas (and beyond) in an ’87 Toyota Landcruiser.

Just back from visiting the Dalai Lama

German photojournalist Mario Goldstein has just returned from an overland expedition, from Europe to India to meet the Dalai Lama. My German is a little rusty, but I’m led to believe that this “wasserwerfer”, literally a “water pumper” was actually in the service of the Munich riot police prior to being purchased in 2010. For the trip, a fiberglass camper box was sourced, which was custom outfitted for the trip by the German company Füss, one of the expedition’s sponsors.

The vehicle is currently for sale for just under 300,000 euros (or around $390k). You can find more information about the trip itself, as well as information about WAWE (as the truck was called) on the website Mario put together for his journey: www.dalailama-tour.de.

Listed features include 60mm insulated walls, triple locking door, cab seating for 5 plus a single bed, solar system for camper and chassis, sleeping for four in the camper (2 singles and a double, all with privacy), electrically lifted table, roof access, shatterproof windshield, operating tempered glass windows with mosquito nets, LED screens, hydraulic tilt-cab, 560 liter fresh water  tank, 120 liter gray water tank, 1000 liter diesel tank, GPS navigation, and a rear view camera.

More photos, including shots of the silver and red interior, and what the doka looked like before the conversion, after the jump.

Nice 4×4 Class C on eBay

This just popped up on eBay a few days ago, a nice looking 4×4 class C conversion. The seller started with a Coachmen Concord 301SS, and had the 4WD conversion done professionally. The conversion added a Dana 60 front axle, NP 271 F T-case, and ARB locking diffs front and rear. While that long overhang may keep it off a few Jeep trails, this drivetrain and mild lift will probably get you to just about anyplace you’d like to go. It has a nice look too, no extra flash… all business.

The rig is located in New Mexico and looks to be in perfect shape. Check it out on eBay or click past the break for more photos.
